LOFT sponsors Theo's Gang
Leyton Orient Fans' Trust (LOFT) is pleased to announce that it will sponsor Leyton Orient FC's young fans section for the next three seasons. Formerly known as "The OJs", it is being relaunched as "Theo's Gang". The new name was chosen from suggestions made by junior supporters.
The sponsorship deal was marked with a cheque presentation on the Brisbane Road pitch at half-time during the recent victory over Mansfield Town. Orient legends Sid Bishop and Stan Charlton, who captained the O’s side that won promotion to the top flight in 1962, joined LOFT chair Doug Harper and young fans Arthur Cook and Alex Osborne for the cheque handover.
"Part of LOFT's remit is to promote the activity of football to young people," said Doug Harper, LOFT's Chair. "When we heard that the club needed sponsorship to cover the running costs, we felt that we were the obvious choice. We also thought it tied in well with our ongoing sponsorship of AC Leyton, an under 17s side who play in the Barking Youth League, run by the Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme."
"This is a big step forward for LOFT," continued Doug. "We will, of course, continue to represent the interests of our members, and the wider Orient community, as we take very seriously our role as the only independent supporters' organisation associated with Leyton Orient. Now we also want to show that we can work together with the club as well as tell them when we think things have gone wrong."
LOFT's sponsorship commitment will amount to a four-figure sum for each of the next three seasons, and LOFT is planning a number of fundraising events throughout the coming season to cover this commitment, including a Christmas party to be held at the ground after the home match on Saturday 10 December. Further details of all of these will be announced in due course.
A presentation of the cheque to the club took place on the Brisbane Road pitch at the match against Mansfield Town on Saturday 1 October. Pictured below are Sid Bishop, Doug Harper, Stan Charlton and young O’s supporters Arthur Cook and Alex Osborne. And, of course, Theo himself!
