LOFT welcomes publication of Tracey Crouch review
11/30/2021

The board of LOFT has welcomed the publication of the Fan Led Review of Football Governance, chaired by Tracey Crouch MP. The review was brought about by a number of crises in English football, and its recommendations would – if accepted by Government – bring about enormous change for the better.

In particular, the introduction of an Independent Regulator and a club licensing system is something LOFT has long been campaigning for, ever since the football authorities were singularly lacking when Leyton Orient was in crisis during 2016/17. We were pleased to contribute to the Football Supporters' Association's written evidence for the review, and our secretary Jonathan Kaye was part of an FSA League One/Two evidence presentation session.

As a supporters' trust, LOFT's primary concern is supporter representation, and we are pleased to see a number of recommendations in this area. O's fans are fortunate in that we already have a club ownership that values supporter engagement, and we see nothing in the recommendations that should be of concern to Leyton Orient FC.

Indeed, it's great to see the club not only welcoming the review and supporting its recommendations, but also signing up to – and being an advocate for – the Fair Game initiative, for whom our chair Doug Harper is one of the policy advisors.

This review represents the best chance to 'reset' football, and all fans groups across football, LOFT included, will need to step up campaigning for its adoption in full. All fans can help by lobbying their MP in favour of the review, as the publication has already received cross-party support in Parliament.
