Members to decide call for Becchetti to sell up
1/11/2016

LOFT members will vote next week on a resolution, calling for Francesco Becchetti to set out how he will change the way he runs Leyton Orient Football Club, or to put the club up for sale.

The resolution will be one of three on the agenda at our AGM, which takes place on the evening of Thursday 10 November at the Birkbeck Tavern, where LOFT was formed 15 years ago.

It follows our recent survey results which showed the growing level of anger and frustration at how Mr Becchetti is running the club. That feeling has clearly grown even in little over a fortnight since then, with visible and vocal protests inside the ground against the club's owner at the last two home matches.

Our door always remains open for discussion, so we continue to seek a meeting with Mr Becchetti to discuss ways of improving the situation for everyone - fans and owner alike - as we believe that the status quo is unsustainable beyond the short term.

However, if no such commitment to change is forthcoming, we feel we need a mandate from members to call on Mr Becchetti to put the club up for sale, so that a new owner (or consortium) can try and restore the well-run and happy football club that Mr Becchetti bought just over two years ago. All Orient fans clearly want their club back that they had then.

Other AGM details

Admittance to the AGM on 10 November is to members only, but any O's fan can join LOFT in advance or on the night and attend the AGM. All current members were sent an AGM notice just over a week ago, please contact the membership secretary if you did not receive one and wish to check your membership is current.

We are receiving new membership applications on a daily basis, and while we are acknowledging these as they arrive, it is likely membership cards will not reach a number of new members until after the AGM. However, don't worry - if we have received your application and payment then your membership is valid and you will be able to attend.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all members, current and new, that membership is subject to our Code of Conduct:

"LOFT opposes violence, racism and other discriminatory behaviour in football. As a member of LOFT you will be expected to support LOFT in this aim and not participate in any violent, racist or discriminatory behaviour whilst travelling to or from football matches, at football matches or at events organised by LOFT."

Welcome John Mackie!

We are pleased to announce that former club captain John Mackie has agreed to our invitation to be co-opted as one of our external directors.

John's experience as a leader and his legend status at the club, together with his renewed involvement in football as assistant manager to fellow ex-O Gary Alexander at Greenwich Borough, makes him an ideal choice to broaden our reach.

John joins local MP John Cryer, Supporters Club committee member (and FSF National Council elected member) Tony Roome, and Leyton Orientear editor Jim Nichols as our external directors.
