Petition handover snub
10/19/2011

Leyton Orient fans were horrified to hear that Jennette Arnold, Assembly Member for North East London, was today prevented from presenting the Save Orient petition to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. The petition, opposing the move of West Ham United to the Olympic Stadium, was to be presented to the Mayor at today's Assembly meeting, however Conservative members walked out, leaving it inquorate. This wholly undemocratic action means that the fans' views are being ignored once again.

While the original decision to permit West Ham to move to the stadium, ignoring Premier League rules, is now cancelled, we note that the Mayor has indicated that he believes West Ham will be the eventual tenants anyway. In these circumstances, it is even more important that the fans' opposition to this move be treated seriously; this the Mayor and his fellow Conservative Assembly members have signally failed to do.

We fully support Jennette Arnold's continuing attempts to help Leyton Orient and its fans in this process, and call on the Mayor and Conservative members to treat the fans' views with respect.
