LOFT AGM 2010/11
10/31/2010

LOFT's Annual General Meeting for 2010/11 took place on Thursday 21 October, with some 50 members old and new in attendance. Once the formal AGM business was dealt with - see below - Orient manager Russell Slade took over the mic to answer questions from those present, along with 'late substitute' Kevin Dearden (club goalkeeping coach and chief scout) who took the place of club captain Stephen Dawson due to the latter's illness.

Among the highlights of the evening:

  • Slade explaining to Doug the tactical nuances of our defending at corners, with the benefit of a tactics board;
  • Slade believes 4-4-2 is a dying formation;
  • The club uses pilates as part of its fitness regime to stretch and to prevent injury;
  • They have to reign in the likes of Adam Chambers and Stephen Dawson from training too much;
  • If Slade could change one thing at the club, it would be to have a training pitch that's all theirs;
  • Slade's joking reaction to being asked about the day Orient were last promoted (when his Grimsby side were denied an automatic promotion): "There's always one w**ker!".

A full write-up of the evening will be made available in due course to members via the e-mail discussion list.

LOFT would like to thank the Supporters Club for its hospitality in hosting our AGM, those members who came along and who we hoped had an entertaining evening, Matt Porter for liaising with our guests, and last but not least Russell Slade and Kevin Dearden for giving up several hours of their time and for their honesty and good humour.

The meeting received the chair's report, including a message from LOASS (Leyton Orient Advanced Soccer School) which can be read here. It was decided to hold a separate meeting in due course to discuss the recently-produced strategy document. Doug ended his chair's report by thanking Vicki Kaye for her help and support during her time as vice-chair.

The meeting also received the Treasurer's report, noting a small loss due to the take-up of £1 memberships which has boosted membership numbers but caused a drop in income. The committee will continue to monitor income and decide in due course whether to continue this membership offer; it will continue until at least the end of this season as a recruitment tool. The Resolution to not require a full audit and continue with an Independent Examination for the year ending May 2011 was carried in full.

Mark Dunn and Paul Morris stood for election to the committee, while Roger Cook and Mike Randall stood down from the committee as per LOFT's rules and stood for re-election. All were elected. Vicki Kaye stood down from the committee.
