LOFT welcomes Safe Standing Day 12/29/2005
LOFT welcomes the Safe Standing Day initiative being held at
Wycombe Wanderers' ground for the visit of Leyton Orient today.
The initiative has been organised by Wycombe
Wanderers Supporters Trust and Wycombe
Wanderers Founders Trust, with the backing of Wycombe
Wanderers Football Club, to show that football supporters value the
choice of whether to stand or to sit at football matches. With the
game being televised live on Sky Sports, the issue of Safe Standing will be
raised at a national level.
LOFT applauds the fact that a fellow promotion-chasing club not only has
a traditional home terrace, but is backing the issue of the choice to stand
on national television. LOFT was, and remains, disappointed at the lack of
a home terrace at Brisbane Road as part of the current ground
redevelopment, and has repeatedly called for standing accommodation to be
incorporated in the eventual North Stand.
The initiative is also being backed by the Stand Up Sit Down campaign, which is
calling for safe standing areas to be agreed at all football grounds.
