LOFT meeting with the club
7/26/2004

Recently, members of LOFT's committee met with David Dodd at the Matchroom Stadium, in his capacity as a Director on the Board of Leyton Orient, to discuss several current and possible future issues arising from the ground redevelopment and other areas. As a result of this meeting, we can report that:

  • The club is fully committed to building a North Stand, and indeed one has to be built as it is an agreement within the planning consent granted by the local authority for the stadium redevelopment. The exact timing of the building will depend on what surplus, if any, remains from the funds generated from the sale of land at the four corners and the money from the Football Foundation, together with income raised from the letting of commercial space within the West Stand (once completed).
  • The timetable for making the ground ready for the first match of the season remains on schedule. The contingency plan for playing the opening game(s) at Dagenham & Redbridge's ground remains in place.
  • The option of selling the space in the West Stand, as raised at the club's AGM, is a final option only. Talks are ongoing with interested parties in letting out the space.
  • LOFT's suggestion that the Main Stand enclosures be converted back to standing to increase capacity was considered, but was rejected as there is no funding for it.
  • The gents' toilets in the North Wing of the Main Stand will be adapted to include a separate exit. The condition of all the Main Stand toilets will be monitored during the season to ensure they are adequate.
  • Disabled seating will still be available this coming season; approx. 20 places will be available at the front of the Main Stand, as well as a disabled toilet at each end of the Stand.
  • The club remains committed to looking at differential pricing on seating, which LOFT will continue to lobby for.

LOFT welcomes the ongoing dialogue it has with the club, and we will continue to raise issues with the club on behalf of its members and the wider fan community wherever these arise.
